What's New?

The Quilter's Catalog will begin arriving in bookstores and quilt shops in January, and an author tour starts in February. Advance copies of the book were sent out early to quilt publications and prominent figures in the quilt world. Here are some of the early reactions:

BIG NEWS: National Quilt Contest Tied to My Book! Here's How to Enter...

The Piece, Love & Quilts contest was recently announced by co-sponsors Bernina, Benartex and the Electric Quilt company. To enter, you must make a quilt using one of two fabric lines from Benartex: Woodstock or City Girl. This fabric is gorgeous, and just began arriving in quilt shops in late November. Photos of finished quilts must be submitted by May 31.

Here's how Benartex announced the contest at Quilt Market in Houston:
"Get ready to stretch your artistic muscles and showcase your work in Piece, Love and Quilts, the modern quilter's contest! Inspired by the upcoming book, The Quilter's Catalog by Meg Cox, Piece, Love & Quilts is a celebration of creativity, vision and all that quilting has to offer." Top prizes for the contest are smashing, including a top-of-the-line Bernina sewing machine; a year's worth of fabric (worth $1,000); and a free trip to Quilt Festival in Long Beach, California next summer -- where the winning quilts will be exhibited. For information on the contest rules and to download an entry form, go to the Benartex website.

Meg talks about her book:

I first started researching my new book about quilts in 2001, so it’s been a long time coming, but I think it will be worth the wait. This book is like six books in one, including a dozen projects (mainly by celebrity teachers such as Ricky Tims, Ami Simms and Eleanor Burns), tons of resources and tips, quirky quilt history, and profiles of the top 20 quilt teachers in the U.S.

“The Quilter’s Catalog” will be out in early 2008 from Workman Publishing.

Interview with Meg Cox posted at The Alliance for American Quilts website

The AAQ's oral history project, Quilters' S.O.S. - Save Our Stories, contains more than 650 interviews with 21st century quilters, archived at the nonprofit's website www.centerforthequilt.org. Many are prominent teachers and prize-winners, while others are everyday quilters whose stories are extraordinary. Recently, the Alliance posted a lengthy interview with Meg conducted by quilt artist and curator Karen Musgrave, the founder of the QSOS project. Meg discusses her quilting history, her new book, and how she came to make a quilt inspired by the Wall Street Journal. Click here to read the interview.
